Health care professionals

If you are a health care professional with a patient who you think may benefit from psychological therapy for mental or emotional health difficulties relating to their experience of pregnancy, birth or early parenting, you can refer them to our service.

They must have an infant under 2 years of age and be living in the Scottish Borders area. They will be put on a waiting list and offered an assessment session as soon as possible. After assessment, if the service is right for them, they will be offered up to 12 sessions in a block. Each session lasts around 1 hour.

As the referrer you will be kept updated on where your patient sits within our service and we may work with you in order to reach a patient who may find it difficult to access the service.

We aim to offer an assessment within 8 weeks of receiving the referral, however, our waiting list is often longer and currently sits at around 12 weeks. A block of sessions will be offered within 3 weeks of the assessment.

It is important that a patient is not engaged with any other psychological therapy while they are receiving support form us as this may cause confusion and have a detrimental effect on the work.

If you would like more information on the process, get in touch.
